NEW DOOR TO QUEENSLAND
OPENS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

International students wanting to study in Australia will benefit from a new resource which provides comprehensive data about study in Australia’s northern state of Queensland.

Announcing the new website, the State’s Minister for Education, Mr Rod Welford, said the new Study Queensland website would provide a welcoming front door for students from around the world.

"Queensland is already one of the world's top study destinations for international students from more than 100 countries," Mr Welford said, when he officially unveiled the new resource offering Queensland as a leading international study destination.

"The new website: www.studyqueensland.qld.edu.au has a modern, contemporary feel with a range of easily accessible information for international students,” he said. "It's student friendly because it was designed with the help of international students currently studying in Queensland.

Mr Welford said the website offered comprehensive information about study options and life in Queensland, as well as useful links to regional websites, industry sectors, safety information and student testimonials.

"An important feature is a password protected area for Queensland education and training providers to access a range of research, intelligence reports, presentations and marketing resources," Mr Welford said.

International education was a significant export industry for Queensland, contributing almost $1.5 billion to the economy annually. Foreign student numbers in 2007 were expected to reach 65,000, from more than 100 countries.
