High Commissioner's Welcome

Welcome to Australia and to the web-site of the Australian High Commission to Canada. We are delighted to be able to share our country with you and hope that your journey through our information pages and hot links will be informative and enjoyable.

Australia is a unique nation; please visit us if you have not already done so. Real surfing, when done with care, is even more fun than the virtual variety.

Ours is a land of contrasts. Where else do you find the world’s most beautiful beaches and coral reefs and the vibrant colourful outback: tropical rain forests and vast deserts: the unique character of rural Australia and such lively cosmopolitan cities, even ski fields. You will enjoy them all.

We are a diverse people. Like Canada, we are a mosaic of our indigenous aboriginal peoples, the Anglo Celtic people who comprised the move in immigration waves over two centuries and, more recently, immigrants drawn from almost every country in the world.

Behind our easygoing ways we are serious about doing business. Travellers needing visa information can visit our Visa and Immigration section, and business people wanting to buy from or invest in Australia can find the latest information on the economy by accessing Doing Business with Australia. Those seeking opportunities to study in Australia can find that information in Study in Australia.

In the main, Australians and Canadians see eye to eye. We should, given our similar origins, traditions, societies, and systems of governance. We get on pretty well, laugh at much the same things, support the same causes, and have similar reflexes and instincts.

So welcome to our web-site: for all those things you want to know about Australia, about Australia’s relations with Canada, and about the Australian High Commission in Ottawa.

H.E. William Fisher
Australian High Commissioner
