Travelling to Australia
Australia is a large continent of many contrasts. We are well known for our iconic outback and stunning beaches, but do you know about our vibrant cultural life, cosmopolitan cities, tropical rainforests and snow fields? Tourism Australia’s official website provides planning tools and a wide range of travel information in nine different languages. The Australian Government website also offers useful travel information and resources.
All travellers, except New Zealand citizens, must obtain a visa or travel authority before travelling to Australia.
The Australian Customs Service manages the security and integrity of the Australian border and assists the passage of people and cargo in and out of the country. Information about what items must be declared for inspection on arrival in Australia, what happens if you fail to declare or dispose of quarantine items or if you make a false declaration is available on the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service website.
The Tourist Refund Scheme enables you to claim a refund, subject to certain conditions, of the goods and services tax (GST) and wine equalisation tax (WET) pertaining to non-food items purchased in Australia.
